Shardul Thakur, an all-rounder, has been ruled out of Mumbai’s second Ranji Trophy 2023-24 match against Kerala in Thiruvananthapuram on January 19 owing to an ankle injury received during India’s tour to South Africa.
In the first Test in Centurion, he batted well but failed to make an impression with the ball, surrendering runs in plenty.
Mukesh Kumar took his position in the second Test, however India did not mention an injury at the time.
He has informed the MCA that he would need two weeks to recover, according to Ajinkya Naik, secretary of the Mumbai Cricket Association.
We’re also waiting for an official response from the NCA.
The team also did not include Shreyas Iyer, who is expected to leave to prepare for India’s forthcoming five-match Test series against England.
However, Shivam Dube was nominated to the squad and will join it after the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan.

Sanjay Manjrekar says Shardul Thakur would have to wait a long before playing his next Test
After the first Test against South Africa, veteran batsman Sanjay Manjrekar suggested that, while India as a whole failed,
Thakur could have to bear the blame by missing Test cricket for a spell.
I see why they needed batting depth with Shardul, especially considering their new batsmen at 1, 3, and 5, as well as Shardul’s record in South Africa.
I believe India didn’t bowl properly in that Test match, which cost them the series, he stated on ESPN.
Shardul Thakur, I fear, may have to wait a bit for his next Test match. They’ll have to have a check at his bowling.
He also did not score 40-50 with the bat.
Manjrekar stated that he might not play another Test match for a long as India looks for alternative methods to boost their batting.
Thakur is also not included in India’s team for the first two Tests against England. The show will debut on January 25th.
