Shamar Joseph, West Indies’ newest pace star, is set to miss the International League T20.
He will allegedly return home immediately to recover from a toe injury sustained during the second Test triumph over Australia in Brisbane.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the 24-year-old’s ailment was considered too significant to continue with his spell with the Dubai Capitals.
Joseph, who had only played five first-class games before making his Test debut in Adelaide, was scheduled to fly from Australia to the UAE.
The Guyanese were to team up with David Warner’s Dubai Capitals.
However, a representative for West Indies Cricket confirmed to The Sydney Morning Herald that Joseph will travel home to rest his right foot.
The teenager made the cricketing world pay attention by collecting a fifer in Adelaide, albeit in a losing cause.
However, he took seven wickets in the fourth innings in Brisbane, completing a stunning turnaround and bringing the tourists to an eight-run win.
It was the West Indies’ first Test victory over Australia since 2003, and the first Down Under since 1997.
Right balance is crucial – Kraigg Brathwaite on Shamar Joseph considering going the franchise cricket path
The young pacer is expected to get offers from T20 clubs.
West Indies Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite believes players must learn to manage everything effectively.
The right-hander used Alzarri Joseph’s example:
It’s a balance. Look at Alzarri Joseph; he plays in the IPL and is passionate about Test cricket. He wants to be here.
He was fatigued today, but he came in for the final two overs. Once you have a passion for this game and the grueling Test cricket, finding the appropriate balance is essential.
I feel we should play more Test cricket, and more consistently.
Our next Test series is scheduled for July 10, which is quite some time away.
So I feel we have potential, and it tells the world that we will compete and win Test matches. But we need more cricket that is my plea.
