Shakib Al Hasan on leading Bangladesh in the future. As the Bangla Tigers continue to embrace a transition time, Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has said that he will hold discussions with the Bangladesh Cricket Board on his captaincy.
Recently, Bangladesh and New Zealand drew their T20 series 1-1 away from home. Despite leading the series early on, the visitors lost the third Twenty20 International match after the second match was rained out.
Shakib Al Hasan is scheduled to return via the Bangladesh Premier League in 2024, having missed the New Zealand series. He will compete on behalf of Rangpur Riders in the match, which is scheduled to start on January 19.
Shakib Al Hasan on leading Bangladesh in the future
After Tamim Iqbal’s temporary retirement, Shakib was forced to assume the leadership. He led the country in the 2023 Asia Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Due to an injury he received during the ODI World Cup in India, Shakib will not be playing in the home and away match against New Zealand.
Najmul Hossain Shanto recently guided Bangladesh to their maiden white-ball victories in New Zealand while he was absent. He has been endorsed as a legitimate captaincy contender by head coach Chandika Hathurusingha.
Bangladesh and Shakib will need to address the uncertainty around the long-term captaincy role. The 2024 T20 World Cup is the first significant task of the year, which will be followed by a trip to India.
There hasn’t been a conversation about that yet, but I’ll speak with the board and we’ll talk about it. Everyone will eventually decide what’s best for the squad in this sense,” Shakib stated during a Tuesday training session.
Following a resounding win in the general elections, Shakib just obtained a seat in the Bangladeshi parliament.
The outstanding all-rounder also discussed what Bangladesh hopes to achieve at the T20 World Cup in 2024. After winning two games, the subcontinental team placed fifth in their group at the previous tournament in Australia. Placed them beneath the Netherlands in the standings.
