Caroline Wozniacki offers a shout-out to Americans and shows out side-by-side pillars at the Australian Open’s Walk of Champions
Caroline Wozniacki posted a video of herself walking down the Walk of Champions at Rod Laver Arena ahead of the 2024 Australian Open.
The Dane displayed side-by-side pillars with Serena Williams and stated that she missed her.
At the Australian Open in 2020, the Danish player announced her retirement. However, Wozniacki announced her return to tennis in June 2023, following the birth of two children.
She claimed that she will make her comeback on the North American hardcourt swing, accepting main draw wild cards for two major warm-up events in Montreal and Cincinnati.
She then competed in the US Open, where she advanced to the fourth round.
Williams, on the other hand, announced her retirement at the US Open in 2022 as part of the Serena Williams Farewell Tour.
The tour began with the North American hardcourt swing, and the Canadian Open was the opening stop. She left the tennis scene after losing in the third round of the 2022 US Open.
Wozniacki began her 2024 season at the ASB Classic, where she lost in the first round to Elina Svitolina in straight sets. She has been granted a main draw wildcard for the 2024 Australian Open.
The Dane recently uploaded an Instagram story about strolling along the Rod Laver Arena’s famed Walk of Champions, which includes the names of all Australian Open champions.
She also mentioned her pal Serena Williams, saying she missed her, and showed off her own pillar, which was erected alongside the Americans’.
The pillars mark the years that the player won the Australian Open. While Wozniacki won once in 2018, Williams won seven times: 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2015, and 2017.
Caroline Wozniacki has only defeated Serena Williams once
Caroline Wozniacki and Serena Williams played each other 11 times in their careers. Williams has a 10-1 record in head-to-head matches.
They have played nine matches on hard court, with Williams prevailing 8-1, and once each on clay and grass, with the American winning both games.
The only time the Dane beat the American came in the Miami Masters semifinals in 2012.
Williams was returning from a month-long hiatus caused by an injury to her left ankle sustained at the Brisbane International.
Wozniacki upset the 23-time Grand Slam winner 6-4, 6-4, for her first and only career win over Williams. Before the match, Williams had won their first three meetings.
