Serena Williams was ecstatic after Grigor Dimitrov’s exploits at the 2024 Brisbane International.
Dimitrov earned his seventh career championship in the recently ended ATP 250 in Brisbane, which featured a strong field of players like Rafael Nadal, Holger Rune, Andy Murray, Sebastian Korda, and Ben Shelton.
The Bulgarian, the event’s second seed, defeated Murray, Daniel Altmaier, Rinky Hijikata, Jordan Thompson, and Rune to win the title.
It is worth mentioning that Grigor Dimitrov’s victory is his first since winning the ATP Finals in 2017.
While the former World No. 3 has reached three more finals since then, two of which were in 2023 (the Geneva Open and the Paris Masters), he had yet to win a championship.
Fans and tennis professionals alike were encouraged by the 32-year-old’s outstanding performance at the Brisbane International.
Serena Williams, a longtime Dimitrov supporter, also expressed her joy on social media.
In another Instagram story post, the 23-time Grand Slam champion conveyed her delight that Dimitrov had won the ATP 250 event in Brisbane.
Grigor Dimitrov: “Who knows what else might be coming my way” after winning the Brisbane International 2024
Grigor Dimitrov has had an amazing run of form in recent months. Aside from his two finals in Geneva and Paris, he advanced to the semifinals of the Shanghai Masters, Chengdu Open, Citi Open, and ATP Rotterdam in 2023.
As a consequence, the Bulgarian returned to the world’s top 15 in November, for the first time since 2018.
After winning the Brisbane International, Grigor Dimitrov attributed his recent on-court success to his work ethic and improved lifestyle.
Dimitrov stated that the long-awaited victory was emotional for him and expressed his enthusiasm for the next tournaments.
Dimitrov will next compete in the Australian Open (January 14-28). He has been a quarterfinalist in the competition three times (2014, 2018, 2021) and reached the semifinals in 2017.
