Sebastian Vettel, a four-time Formula One champion, will step down at the end of the current campaign to spend more time with his family, the German driver announced on Thursday.

From 2010 to 2013, Vettel and the Red Bull team were the F1 champions. He won his final race in 2019 while driving for Ferrari.
He has had mixed results this season with Aston Martin, with a best sixth-place finish.
According to Vettel he have given retirement a lot of thought, and it has not been an easy decision for me to make. At the conclusion of the year, I would like to spend some additional time thinking about what he will prioritize going forward; it is clear to him that, as a father, he want to enjoy more time with my family.”

One of Formula One’s most successful drivers, Vettel has four World Drivers’ Championship championships to his name. He won these titles back-to-back from 2010 to 2013. Vettel is the Formula One’s youngest World Champion; he also holds the third-most podium finishes (122), race victories (53) and pole positions (44) in the sport (57).
After making a single race appearance in 2007, Vettel began his Formula One career in 2006 as a test driver for BMW Sauber.
Later that year, Vettel, a member of the Red Bull Junior Team, raced for Toro Rosso, and he was retained as a full-time driver for 2008. In 2009, Vettel received a promotion to the Red Bull team. Vettel won four straight championships with Red Bull from 2010 to 2013, the first of which made him the sport’s youngest World Champion. He also set records for the most consecutive victories (9) and the number of victories in a single season (13)
Vettel joined Ferrari in 2015 and, despite finishing second in both of the title races he participated in in 2017 and 2018, was Mercedes’ and Lewis Hamilton’s closest rival. Before announcing his intention to retire at the conclusion of the 2022 season, he left Ferrari to compete for Aston Martin in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
