Saquon Barkley is in the middle of an offseason impasse with the Giants as they looks to win a new contract. New York’s leading rusher just finished his best pro season, posting career-highs in carries and yards.
So far, the two sides have failed to reach an agreement, with the running back declining an option to sign under the $10.1 million franchise tag. Instead, he is expected to land a long-term contract.
Barkley and the Giants have until Monday to come to an agreement on that long-term option. If no deal is reached, he will play under the tag.
What to know more?
Dianna Russini reports that the potential result could jeopardize his availability for Week 1.
“I was told that there is no movement to complete this long-term deal,” Russini said in a recent interview. “Okay, what does this mean? Sources close to Saquon Barkley tell me the option to skip training camp for the running back and even miss week one against the Dallas Cowboys is on the table.
However, she went on to say that New York was not motivated to make a deal, as he believed he would play under the tag for the entire season so as not to lose money.
It appears that Saquon Barkley denies the claims about his contract stalling. Barkley is referring to what Russini reports that he is a “cap,” though it’s unclear if he’s referring to the deal or the possibility of missing regular-season action. The soccer world reacted quickly to the runner’s denial.
“What part is the hat?” asked a fan.
Someone else said, “You know your worth. Get paid.”
Others thought it was funny to see Saccone referencing media reports. However, only time will tell if Saquon Barkley and the Giants reach their contract agreement. The two parties have five days to negotiate that long-term agreement, respectively.
