Sanford Sports Complex remains on schedule for 2023 open
Sanford Sports Complex remains on schedule: As part of a collaboration between Dickinson State University, Dickinson Public Schools, and Dickinson Parks and Recreation, the Dickinson State University Heritage Foundation confirmed in an announcement.
The announcement took place in June of 2021 that a joint agreement had been reached to construct a brand-new sports complex with a price tag of $7 million.
It is anticipated that the announced complex grounds will provide housing for more than 800 young people who participate in softball and soccer in the Dickinson community and the areas surrounding it.
Additionally, the complex grounds will provide opportunities for the Western Edge to host a variety of softball and soccer tournaments of championship calibre.
The Sanford Sports Complex has officially transitioned from the proposal phase into the planning phase, and it became a reality in March when preliminary groundwork began in earnest on the campus of Dickinson State University.
The work is moving forward as planned, and the construction deadline is being maintained for the anticipated grand opening in 2023. Devon Energy is an energy business that engages in hydrocarbon exploration. On Monday, July 25, a press release stated that the company had made a grant to the DSU Heritage Foundation.
According to Kristen Fleury, an assistant athletic director at Dickinson State University, “Devon was one of the first companies to come to the forefront for us when we started the process of fund-raising.”
“They have made it possible for us to keep working toward those fund-raising goals.”
Devon Energy’s Director of Community Relations, Christina Rehkop, has verified that the company has made the donation. She also stated that the company believes in the project and appreciates giving back to the local communities in which it operates.
According to Rehkop, “Devon is proud to be a part of this project” because “this new sports complex is going to be a terrific place for the community to gather” and “Devon is proud to be a part of this project.”
“This is a terrific example of partners pulling together to ensure that Dickinson is a great location to live and work,” said the mayor of Dickinson.
According to Fleury, work on the $7 million project continued along the Western Edge despite the late winter blizzards, severe summer rains, and overall odd weather.
The timeframe for the project has been dragged down and its progress has been hampered as a result of persistent supply chain interruptions in the year 2022. Despite ongoing work on the project.
Following the completion of the groundwork phase, the subsequent phase of construction will consist of establishing the foundations and borders for the entire complex’s five grass soccer fields, four turf softball fields, concessions, and central park.
“The project is progressing quite nicely. There is undoubtedly activity at the location, and Winn Construction has been pouring concrete for the championship field “Fleury added.
“We continue to work with JE Dunn on the development, and they plan to continue the building during the summer months… contractors have done an excellent job pumping the water off, and they continue to work every single day and move as quickly as they possibly can.”
According to Dickinson State University, the completion of phase three will involve the construction of facility structures, with an anticipated completion date of the fall of 2022. Dickinson State University also has a goal for the facility to be completed in its entirety, including landscaping, by the spring of 2023.
