Interest in women’s cricket in India is now at its peak after the women’s finished the runners-up in the ICC women’s cricket world cup 2017. In the commonwealth games, they again prove themselves and won the silver medal in 2022. In the T20I women’s world cup 2020, the women’s team finish in the finals stage.
The decision of the Board of Control for Cricket is very acceptable. On Thursday the BCCI announced that the cricket match fees for the man and women’s teams will be the same. It was a very unique and landmark decision to bring the women’s cricketers to the level of the men’s team in terms of the match fee.
The BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed in the statement that the contracted senior women’s cricketer will get the same payment as the men. No partiality will be followed.
“I am pleased to announce that @BCCI first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing a pay equity policy for contracted @BCCI women cricketers. As we are moving in the era of gender equality the match fee for the women and men cricketers will be the same”. He added “Test (INR 15 LAKH ), ODI (INR 6 LAKH), T20 (INR 3 LAKH). Pay equity to women’s cricketers is my commitment and I thank the Apex council for support.”
The president of the BCCI ROGER BINNY who was recently appointed the designation of president said in an official statement” In our Apex council meeting today, we have made a unanimous decision on pay equity for our women cricketers. Our women cricketers will be paid on the same level as men in international cricket. In my belief, it is a significant step forward for women’s cricket and the game overall”.
