Sam Curran, an all-rounder for England, has stated his desire to rejoin the Test squad and believes Stuart Broad’s reinstatement presents a huge chance. The left-arm seamer said he was fortunate to play with the seasoned bowler and remembered how effectively he mentored him.
With an astounding 604 wickets in 167 games, Broad departed as England’s second-highest Test wicket-taker. The right-arm seamer’s career also had a happily ever after when he took the final two Australian wickets in the fifth Ashes Test to help England defeat Australia and tie the series 2-2.
According to Sam Curran, who spoke to the Evening Standard, Stuart Broad deserved to go in the manner in which he did and feels really fortunate to have played with him.
“I was really fortunate to join the Test team since Broady and Jimmy [Anderson] were role models for me in my youth. It’s awesome that I can now claim that I played with Broady now that he’s finished,” Curran said.
“He’s a terrific guy and very approachable for a novice player looking to learn. I believe Broady has earned his status. There will be a significant void left, which, I suppose, presents a chance for other players to come up.”
The Surrey all-rounder, who last appeared in a Test match against India in August 2021, explained:
“I enjoy playing cricket in all of its forms. Wherever it is, whether I’m playing at Surrey or Oval Invincibles, I think I just have to keep knocking on doors.”
In August 2018, Curran played his first Test against India. He led England to a 4-1 series victory over Virat Kohli and company by excelling with both bat and ball. In 24 Tests, he has taken 47 wickets and scored 815 runs overall.
Sam Curran on winning the ODI World Cup: “That’s a massive ambition”
Sam Curran, who was a key contributor to England’s victory in the 2022 T20 World Cup, later expressed his desire to win the 50-over World Cup in India later this year. Added him:
“There are no justifications for a lack of opportunity to make our claim or preparedness. There are really no interruptions since we’ve got a terrific run-in. To win a World Cup with England in 50 overs is a tremendous goal.”
The 2023 World Cup will begin on October 5 with England, the defending champions, taking against New Zealand at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
