Salman Butt recently expressed his displeasure about Pakistan captain Babar Azam’s exclusion from the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) promo video for the ODI World Cup 2023.
Butt asserted that Babar’s supporters’ fury was well-founded since it was unjust to exclude the star batter from the advertising. The former cricketer compared it to a conversation about the greatest captains in history taking place without bringing up names like MS Dhoni and Imran Khan.
Salman Butt commented on his YouTube channel:
“It is not a major issue. Babar isn’t clamoring to appear in a commercial. This has angered his supporters, and it is understandable why they are upset. Comparable to talking about the best hitter in international cricket without mentioning MS Dhoni, Ian Chappell, or Imran Khan while talking about the best captaincy. It will surely come across as biased.”
Notably, there wasn’t anything for Pakistani supporters to treasure outside a brief film of Shaheen Afridi’s signature jubilation. Although the movie also had Shadab Khan, Wahab Riaz, and Mohammad Amir, three other Pakistani athletes. It was about them getting outside or going for runs.
Salman Butt on Babar Azam’s omission: “Shows the mindset of the people who made this promo”
Salman Butt went on to say that the omission of Babar Azam could have been deliberate on the side of the producers and that it is unlikely to have been an honest error.
He stated that Pakistan has long received unjust treatment and that it has been going on for quite some time.
“They remembered him. It is a problem that has existed for a very long time. It is impossible to forget about it. A child who would have forgotten did not create the advertisement. This only demonstrates the perspective of the creators of this advert. The World No. 1’s absence from the World Cup advertising reveals your mental condition.” On October 6, Babar Azam and company will face the Netherlands at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium to open their 2023 World Cup campaign.
