Saba Karim believes Bumrah and Harshal will perform well when the time is right! Saba Karim thinks that fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel will do well for the team. They just need to come back in their proper form. Karim is a former wicketkeeper and batter for India. He is also a former member of the senior men’s selection committee.
Both Bumrah and Harshal recently got back into action. Before that, they were rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. This was because Bumrah and Harshal had injuries to their lower back and rib, respectively. Meanwhile, India won the three-match T20I series against Australia 2-1.
Bumrah will be effective – Karim
“I can understand that he’s coming back after a long layoff and may take some time to settle down but let’s not get carried away, Jasprit Bumrah in all the games that he will play will be extremely effective – so that may not happen.”
“Having said that, I do believe Jasprit Bumrah, the kind of bowling combination they have right now, and Harshal Patel also, both of them can come good at the right time for India,” said Karim on ‘Sports Over The Top’ show on Sports18.
Bumrah looked like he was in great shape. He even got Aaron Finch out with a powerful yorker at Nagpur. But he hasn’t gotten back to his old rhythm yet. This was shown by the fact that Cameron Green and Tim David beat him terribly in his four overs. Bumrah ended up giving them 50 runs. This is the most runs he’s ever given up in a T20I.
Harshal’s form
In four overs at Mohali, Harshal gave up 49 runs without getting a wicket. Then, he bowled just two overs at Nagpur. There he gave up 32 runs in an eight-overs-a-side game. Later, he bowled overs at Hyderabad, where he gave up just seven runs and got David out. In the three-match series, Harshal’s economy rate was 12.37.
Bowlers need to back up their skills, according to Karim.
Karim went on to say that the ups and downs of the T20I format mean that bowlers need to back up their skill and mastery when coming back from an injury.
“That is true (on form taking time to come on return from injury), but at times we just tend to get carried away and want pacer bowlers to deliver in a very effective manner in all the T20 formats – it is not going to happen.”“The entire format is based so much on unpredictability. So, in one game you may have a very good outing, second game some of the batters may get after you. What is more important is that particular bowler is supposed to have faith in his skill and abilities. So, one can see that in Jasprit Bumrah,” he added.
