SA20: Pollard takes over as captain of MI Cape Town instead of the injured Rashid Khan
MI Rashid Khan, the captain of Cape Town, has been ruled out of the SA20 season while he recovers from back surgery.
The ace legspinner was named to Afghanistan’s side for the three-match T20I series in India. On January 6, according to his cricket board (ACB), though he is unlikely to play.
Rashid also missed Afghanistan’s most recent Twenty20 International (T20I) series in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Big Bash League (BBL).
Kieron Pollard will captain MI Cape Town and make his SA20 debut in Rashid’s absence due to injury.
Pollard was also retained by MI Emirates for the ILT20 in 2024. However because the dates coincide with the SA20, Nicholas Pooran will take Pollard’s place as MI Emirates captain.
Pollard’s participation in the final stage of the ILT20 in the UAE is unknown.
Pollard recently played for New York Strikers in the Abu Dhabi T10 league. Where his team fell to Deccan Gladiators in the final.

Pooran, Pollard’s CPL teammate with the Trinbago Knight Rider. Renounced his West Indies central contract in December 2023, leaving him to become a free agent.
Pooran was selected as a wildcard pick by the Durban Super Giants in September 2023. And he is expected to play three SA20 matches before joining MI Emirates for the second season of the ILT20.
MI Cape Town has also signed Sri Lankan fast bowler Nuwan Thushara, who will take over for Jofra Archer in 2019.
The SA20 will be held between January 10 and February 10, while the ILT20 will be held between January 19 and February 17.
The two leagues will also play against New Zealand’s Super Smash and Bangladesh’s Premier League (BPL).
