Heinrich Klaasen’s blazing 85-run knock secures the victory for Durban’s Super Giants
MI Cape Town was asked to bat first after losing the toss on an excellent batting surface.
Rassie van der Dussen (24) and Ryan Rickleton started brightly, putting together an important 82-run stand before the former left.
No.3 batter Dewald Brevis (5) retired to the pavilion with only 96 runs on the board. Connor Esterhuizen (17) was unable to capitalize in the middle overs.
Ryan Rickleton, on the other hand, stayed strong at one end, hammering 87 runs off 51 balls, including six fours and as many sixes.
Liam Livingstone (25 off 20) and Kieron Pollard (31* off 14) gave Cape Town the ideal finishing touch, propelling them to 207/5 in 20 overs.
Keemo Paul, a pace bowling all-rounder, was brilliant for Durban, taking two key wickets against Van der Dussen and Rickleton.
In response, Quinton de Kock left after scoring only five runs. The third batter, Wiaan Mulder (5), followed suit.
Matthew Breetzke (39 off 24) and Keemo Paul (15) had a crucial 40-run partnership for the third wicket.
Following Paul’s departure, it appeared like the pursuing side would cruise to victory when Heinrich Klaasen and Breetzke put up a 47-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Klaasen went on to produce a match-winning 85-run knock off only 35 balls, including four fours and eight sixes, at an incredible strike rate of 242.86.
The rain ended play at 177/6 in 16.3 overs, leaving the Super Giants 11 runs ahead of the DLS par score owing to Klaasen’s heroics.
With the rain worsening, the Super Giants were granted an 11-run victory by the DLS system.
