S. Africa beats Ireland easily in T20, thanks to Parnell’s bowling! South Africa’s seamer Wayne Parnell recorded the most remarkable statistics of his career with 5-30 as his team cruised to a 44-run victory over Ireland and sealed a 2-0 sweep of their Twenty20 International series on Friday in Bristol. The contest was the second of two matches in the series. South Africa was given the task of batting first, and despite getting off to a sluggish start, they were able to record a score of 182 for six throughout their innings. After that, they successfully limited Ireland’s score to 138 all out in 18.5 overs.
The Parnell Power
Left-armer Parnell put Ireland in a difficult position in the second over of their chase when he took two wickets and then returned to remove the top scorer, Harry Tector, who had scored 34 runs off 31 balls. This effectively ended any aspirations Ireland had of achieving victory.
The Game
Early on in their innings, South Africa had a difficult time scoring runs, but they were able to finish strong and achieve a score that was impossible to beat. They were able to score 128 runs in their final ten overs, with Heinrich Klaasen plundering 39 runs off of 16 deliveries and David Miller finishing not out after scoring 32 runs off of 20 balls.
These two scores were added to the innings’ high score of 42 that was scored by Reeza Hendricks off of 40 balls. Hendricks was denied a seventh consecutive half-century in 20-over internationals because of these two scores. As of right now, South Africa has won 16 of their most recent 20 matches in the shortest format. This is a pretty solid form coming into the Twenty20 World Cup, which will be held in Australia beginning in October.
