The player in question, Rahul Dravid, became a local hero in 2008 when he played for the Indian Premier League. He joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore for the first season but RCB finished last overall that year. In 2009, Kevin Pietersen took over the team and managed to come close to winning the competition before losing out again.

Retain only one player, Virat Kohli, releasing all players into the auction pool. Daniel Vettori was named captain. They finished runner-up.
In 2012, with a leadership change halfway through the tournament. Daniel Vettori stepped down happily and gave over the captaincy to young Virat Kohli. RCB finished fifth for the fifth season. In 2013, RCB had one less eventful year where they finished in fifth place, second consecutive time.

In 2020, RCB performed well and qualified for the Playoffs on points by finishing 4th in their respective group, with a lead of 16 points. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad knocked them out of the competition in 19-20 Eliminator. The 2021 campaign will see some major changes from RCB as they have added some legendary players like Glenn Maxwell to round up an already high class squad that includes Kyle Jamieson
