On Monday, Novak Djokovic fell four positions to No. 7 a day after capturing Wimbledon for the seventh time. And Roger Federer completely disappeared from the ATP standings for the first time in twenty-five years. Since his 16-year-old debut in September 1997, Federer had been in the singles standings every week. He was tied for 803rd place at the time and maintained the mark for the longest period of time at No. 1 until Djokovic broke it. Check out details about it below.
Roger Federer dropped out of the ATP rankings for the first time
Due to the fact that the rankings are determined by a player’s performance over the preceding 52 weeks. And that Federer hasn’t played a single match since reaching the Wimbledon quarterfinals a year ago. Federer, who was ranked 97th before play at the All England Club, now has 0 points.
Following after the defeat, Federer underwent his third right knee surgery in around 18 months. Federer, who will be 41 on August 8, plans to compete again in his home country of Switzerland in October. He also expressed aspirations to compete at Wimbledon in the future throughout a recent appearance at Centre Court.
The All England Club’s decision to ban athletes from Russia and Belarus due to the conflict in Ukraine led the WTA and ATP to decide not to grant any ranking points for Wimbledon, which led to Djokovic’s decline and that of Nick Kyrgios, who finished second, who fell from No. 40 to No. 45 despite reaching his first Grand Slam final.
All the points Djokovic, Kyrgios, and the other players had accrued for Wimbledon in 2021 were lost on Monday, and they received no advantage from their performances over the previous two days.
