Robert Lewandowski, a striker from Poland, is expected to sign with Barcelona after Bayern Munich and the LaLiga team verbally agreed to a trade, the Bundesliga champions announced on Saturday.
The 33-year-old still has one year left on his Bayern Munich agreement, although numerous media outlets had previously reported that he was likely to sign a three-year agreement with the 26-time Spanish champions.
Robert Lewandowski is set to join Barcelona
Bayern president Herbert Hainer announced that “we have reached a verbal agreement with Barcelona.” Clarity is advantageous for all parties. Robert is a fantastic athlete, and he achieved it all with us. We owe him a huge debt of gratitude.
According to Spanish media, Barcelona would pay roughly 45 million euros ($45.4 million) for the striker, plus an additional 5 million in add-ons.
Since moving to Bayern from Borussia Dortmund in 2014, Lewandowski has won the Bundesliga each year as well as the Champions League in 2020.
Lewandowski, who was named FIFA’s Best Men’s Player for the second year in a row in January, declared in May that his time at Bayern was up and that he could not imagine continuing to play for the German champions.
The club was reluctant to let Lewandowski leave because he was the second-leading scorer in Bundesliga history, but Bayern’s sports director Hasan Salihamidzic stated that Lewandowski had rejected a contract extension offer and was seeking fresh opportunities abroad.
Serge Gnabry, a German international who had been linked to a return to the Premier League by the British media, also had his contract with Bayern extended until 2026, according to the club’s press release.
A Polish-born professional football player named Robert Lewandowski leads the Poland national team in addition to playing as a striker for Bundesliga side Bayern Munich. For club and nation, he has scored more than 600 goals at the senior level.
