February 2–21 will see Sri Lanka play three ODIs, three Twenty20 Internationals, and one special Test against Afghanistan. From February 2 to 6, the test match will take place at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. Reports: The ICC Board has lifted Sri Lanka Cricket’s prohibition.
The Sri Lanka-Afghanistan series’ three one-day matches are scheduled to take place in Pallekele on February 9, February 11, and February 14. The dates of the Twenty20 Internationals are February 17, 19, and 21 at Dambulla.
The prior assignment for Sri Lanka was a trip to Zimbabwe earlier this month. They prevailed 2-1 in the three-match T20I series and 2-0 in the rain-affected three-match ODI series.
The ICC Board has lifted Sri Lanka Cricket’s prohibition
There are indications that the suspension of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has been revoked with immediate effect by the International Cricket Council (ICC) Board.
Due to its inability to conduct its business independently and its violation of the rule against government meddling in the regulation, governance, and/or administration of Sri Lankan cricket, SLC was suspended in November of last year.
The ICC Board has reportedly been keeping an eye on the matter since the suspension and is now confident that the Sri Lankan Cricket Board is not in violation of its membership duties, according to a story published by the news agency PTI.
In a social media post announcing the suspension’s removal, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Sports Harin Fernando promised to release an official announcement shortly.
Following the dismissal of the previous Shammi Silva government by Fernando’s predecessor Roshan Ranasinghe and the appointment of an interim committee led by 1996 World Cup winner Arjuna Ranatunga, the ICC banned Sri Lanka.
Silva was later reinstated by the court, and President Ranil Wickremesinghe removed Ranasinghe from his position. However, Sri Lanka was unable to host the U-19 World Cup, which is presently taking place in South Africa, as a result of the suspension.
The report further stated that Fernando and Wickremesinghe met with ICC CEO Geoff Allardice during his early-month visit to Colombo. According to reports, he was informed that the government of Sri Lanka is drafting a new sports statute that would forbid political intervention in the management of sports.
