Renuka Singh sliced through England’s top players and finished with a remarkable score of 5/15.
In India’s Women’s T20 World Cup match against England, fast bowler Renuka Singh rewrote a few records by taking five wickets.
Renuka, who is 27 years old, ended the innings with figures of 5/15, despite the fact that England set India a target of 152 to chase.
However, England was unable to handle Renuka. During the powerplay, Renuka hit three times to jolt England’s innings.
This was her first T20I five-wicket haul. In addition, it was the first time a male or female Indian bowler had scored five wickets in a T20 World Cup match. In a T20 World Cup match, Renuka’s figures are the best of any Indian bowler.
Richa Ghosh’s stunning catch behind the wickets was primarily responsible for Renuka’s dismissal of Danielle Wyatt in the first over itself.
Ghosh dived and plucked the ball with her outstretched hand in the air, holding onto it once she hit the ground after Wyatt’s outside edge flew to the keeper’s right.
Renuka defeated Alice Capsey for three when she struck again in her second over. The 18-year-old tried to play the flick with the ball coming in, but he played around it and missed the ball as it hit the stumps.
Sophia Dunkley and Nat Sciver-Brunt both hit boundaries, but Renuka returned in the third over to knock Dunkley off her stumps.
At the end of the powerplay, England was at 37/3, a precarious position. Sciver-Brunt and captain Heather Knight helped them recover, putting together a 51-run stand for the fourth wicket. Sciver-Brunt used her ability to find boundaries to attack the Indian bowlers consistently.
Knight was bowled out for 28(23) by Shikha Pandey in her third over, breaking the partnership with Sciver-Brunt. The latter continued to play aggressively, scoring her 11th T20I fifty in the 17th over before falling shortly after that, putting Sophie Ecclestone in a position to bowl.
As Amy Jones raced to a blistering 40 in just 27 balls, she added the finishing touches. England scored 17 runs in the 19th over thanks to sixes from Jones and Ecclestone to Deepti Sharma.
But Renuka Singh came back to bowl the English inning’s final over, taking two wickets to win her first T20I match.
