Regis Chakabva: The Man Who Changed Life As We Know It
Regis Chakabva: The Man Who Changed Life As We Know It, A promising and versatile bowler, Cricket player Regensie Chakabva’s path took him through Highfields, Churchill, on to Takashinga, provincial cricket and eventually regular appearances in Zimbabwe’s Twenty20, ODI and Test teams. At each level, Chakabva has improved his skills as a batsman and keeper.
In 2005, Chakaibu played for Zimbabwe in the Afro-Asia Under19s Cup. Despite the rebel crisis and subsequent player drain, he had to wait in line behind Tatenda Taibu, Brendan Taylor, Alester Maregwede and eventually Richmond Mutumbami for a spot at wicketkeeping.
During a disappointing run during Pakistan’s visit in 2008, he was selected to represent Zimbabwe during their Canadian tour soon after. He got one last chance during the Kenya Tri-Nation tournament and made his ODI debut against Kenya.
In 2014, he made it into the national Test XI for the one-off Test against New Zealand in November. He was already playing for Northerns at the time, but with their restructuring, he continued to play for Mashonaland Eagles. In 2011, he became a pivotal factor in his career with his sustained performances, and that turning point came at the end of 2013.
In a match against Mid West Rhinos, he scored a near record breaking 240 runs. He then went on to add three more centuries for Mashonaland Eagles that season, before being signed by the Farleigh Magpies in Queensland. A Grade Cricket contract with them marked a bountiful year for him in 2014, where he added three more hundreds to his previous eight centuries before the end of the year.
He was relatively an important player for Zimbabwe when the team toured Bangladesh in the last part of the year. He made his Test debut then, with a century and two fifties, one of which was his maiden.
