Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback to the Indian lineup has been welcomed by Harbhajan Singh, who also wishes the speedster continued health going forward.
The opening of a three-match ODI series between India and Ireland will take place on August 18 in Dublin. The 15-person Indian team for the tour was just announced by the selectors, with Bumrah serving as captain.
The former Indian spinner elaborated on the argument that the unconventional pacer is just as important for the bowling unit as Virat Kohli is for the batting unit:
“Whether you watch the WTC final or the cricket matches that were played before that, he has been sorely missed. If we speak about batting, we talk about Virat Kohli, and if there is a Virat Kohli of bowling, it is Jasprit Bumrah, I used to say previously and I still say it today. No one has a bigger name than he does.”
In 60 T20 Internationals, Bumrah has taken 70 wickets at an outstanding economy rate of 6.62. After having back surgery, he is now returning to competitive cricket after being gone since September of last year.
Harbhajan Singh said of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s selection as vice-captain, “Well deserved”
In the batting section, worthy players, according to Harbhajan Singh, have been chosen.
“Well-deserving of the position of vice captain is Ruturaj Gaikwad. Then there is Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was required to be present due to his strength as a player. An opportunity has been presented to Tilak Varma. Rinku Singh, who is adored by everyone, has been given a chance. His performance is anticipated in Ireland as well. The squad includes Sanju Samson, Jitesh Sharma, and Shivam Dube.
The former cricketer-turned-commentator was particularlypleasedwiththe return of PrasidhaKrishnawhile discussing a bowling formation other than Bumrah, saying:
Washington Sundar is back in action. The team now includes Shahbaz Ahmed, and Ravi Bishnoi has returned. Prasidh Krishna has returned. He is a gifted fast bowler who, in my opinion, can play for India in Test cricket for a very long period. Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan, and Arshdeep Singh have all returned, and they are all on the team.
In his conclusion, Harbhajan emphasised the significance of the Ireland series. Particularly for players seeking a comeback, given the proximity of the World Cup. He stated that while the format might be different, every performance important and that the selectors and team management will be closely monitoring every player.
