Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam became the fastest to 10,000 runs in T20s during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi on Wednesday, February 21 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
The right-handed batsman beat the previous mark set by West Indies great Chris Gayle, who completed the feat in 285 innings.
Babar reached the record in his 271st innings, taking a double off Mir Hamza in the second over.
The 29-year-old is also the youngest to set the preceding record. He has scored 10 hundreds and 83 half-centuries in his T20 career, omitting today’s knock.
India icon Virat Kohli is third with 299 innings, while Australia’s David Warner (303) and Aaron Finch (327) are among the top five quickest players.
Gayle still holds the record for most T20I runs (14,562 in 455 innings). Shoaib Malik became the first Pakistani player to achieve more than 10,000 runs in T20Is.
Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Alex Hales, Warner, Kohli, Finch, Rohit Sharma, Jos Buttler, Colin Munro, James Vince, and David Miller are among those who have accomplished this accomplishment.
