Real Madrid reject racist comments made about forward Vinicius Junior: Real Madrid has denounced racist comments made about their star forward, Vinicius Junior, as the Brazilian soccer player announced in a video statement that he won’t change his celebratory gestures as they don’t bother him with his recent victory.
Pedro Bravo, a leading agent, said on a sports show that Vinicius, a 19-year-old Brazilian player, was not respecting his opponents. On social media however, people were outraged by the comparison to monkey because of Vinicius’ “boyish” and flamboyant celebrations.
Vinicius, 22, says that most of the times his celebrations were criticized by racist remarks. He mentioned other players who also follow a similar celebratory routine after scoring.
Last Wednesday, Vinicius Junior, Brazilian gymnast and Olympian tweeted a video where he says happiness bothers him. The happiness of winning solves much more than just the Olympics. They begin to criminalize my dances weeks ago and they continue to do so.
Real Madrid’s players come from the most diverse backgrounds and they showed this in their statement against racism. One soccer player threatened legal action against anyone who disparages their teammates, making racist remarks about them.
Real Madrid wishes to reject all forms of racism and xenophobia, including the unfortunate remarks made against Vinicius Junior in recent hours. Real Madrid CF wants to show their support and love to Vinicius Junior by displaying the values of joy, respect, equality, sportsmanship and life that the footballer understands.
Not only has the French Football Club Paris Saint-Germain reinforced its opposition against racism by taking legal action, but it also inspires others to do the same.
Bravo, the president of the Association of Spanish Agents, later took to Twitter to clarify he used the “monkey” expression to say Vinicius was doing stupid things. I want to clarify that the expression “playing the monkey” that I have misused as a method of qualifying Vinicius’ goal celebration dance was done in a metaphorical sense, he said.
I apologize for anything I may have said that offended people and I thank those who came out in defense of Vinicius. Unfortunately, former Brazil football captain Pele also lambasted my remarks. Pele and the Brazilian Federation took a strong stance against my remarks.
Despite the negative effects of racism, football can bring people together and make us happy. Pele wrote that football is joy. It is a sport with unity and diversity. We will fight racists until they stop taking our joy away from us.
Brazil’s national soccer federation supported #BailaViniJr, which means “dance, Vinícius Jr.” and wrote: There will be dancing, dribbling, but most importantly respect. On Thursday night (15), our athlete Vinícius was the target of racist comments. The CBF strongly stands in solidarity and supports #BailaViniJr

Brazil midfielder Neymar has offered some words of advice to young striker Vinicius Junior, who he has helped develop from a young age. Commenting on his young teammate’s Instagram post, Neymar told Vinicius to “keep it up my boy” with the caption “Dribble, dance and be you.”
Speaking from the Wanda Metropolitano Friday, captain of Atletico Madrid Koke warned Vinicius that “trouble” is about to come his way. Asked if he would understand the reaction of Atletico’s home fans if Vinicius performed his famous dance celebration after scoring against their rival Real Madrid, Koke replied: “That is to be expected.”
Vinicius said Koke that players are free to celebrate goals however they see fit. If Vincius decides to dance after scoring a goal, it doesn’t really matter because the way he celebrates his goals is up to him. Is one way of celebrating more understandable than another? Every player has their own preferences when it comes to celebrating a goal and everyone celebrates in their own way.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has said he does not understand the controversial celebration Vinicius’ goal.
He doesn’t need to adjust his attitude because he respects his rivals and the referee quite a bit. The opposing athletes respect what he does in the game, mostly because of how passionate he plays. Atletico have five points behind LaLiga leaders Real Madrid after five games played.
