Royal Challengers Bangalore Women will take on UP Warriorz in the 8th game of the Women’s Premier League 2023 on Friday (March 10) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The Challengers have failed to win a single game so far and are placed last in the points table.
They lost the previous match against Gujarat Giants by a mere margin of 11 runs after failing to chase the target of 202 runs. Sophie Devine had a great outing with the bat for the Challengers as she scored 66 runs off 45 deliveries.
The Warriorz, on the other hand, have won and lost one game each so far this season. They lost the previous match against Delhi Capitals by 42 runs. The Capitals posted a huge total of 211 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs while batting first. In reply, the Warriorz could make only 169 runs. Tahlia McGrath scored 90 runs off 50 deliveries but couldn’t get her team over the line.

PITCH REPORT
It will be the fourth game of the season at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The teams have easily scored 200 runs at this venue. Batters have dominated the tournament so far and might do the same in this game. The average first innings score in the last five T20 games has been 193 runs.
The Women’s Premier League 2023 has so far witnessed some fine performances by several players across five teams. The level of competition has been high since the first day when Mumbai Indians scored 207/5 in the curtain raiser against Gujarat Giants and eventually won the game by a whopping 143 runs. With an aim to keep up with the competition, Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz will lock horns in the eighth match of the tournament.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are yet to open their account in the WPL points table and are placed fifth in the bottom-most position. Having played three games in the tournament so far, the Smriti Mandhana-led side failed to clinch a victory against Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and Gujarat Giants but would be hoping to turn the tables around in the game against UP Warriorz.
The Alyssa Healy-led UP Warriorz clinched a thrilling victory in their first game against Gujarat Giants and pulled off a thriller, making the game one of the best in the tournament so far. Grace Harris’ unbeaten knock of 59*(26) and her 70* run partnership with Sophie Ecclestone proved to be the match-winning factor for the Women in Yellow.
But the side dropped her for their second game of the tournament against Delhi Capitals to get in Shabnim Ismail as their fourth overseas player. It was a risky move, and it proved costly too as they failed to chase the 212-run target against Delhi Capitals and lost their previous contest. The team would want the services of Grace Harris, but it would be interesting to see who makes the way.
As of now, both RCB and UP are coming off a defeat from their previous game and would be hoping to get back to winnings ways.
Pitch and Conditions
The surface at Brabourne Stadium provides great assistance to the batters. RCB have played all three matches at this venue so far, and all the games have seen batters going for the big runs. The recent game at the venue witnessed the two sides scoring a total of 391 runs on the pitch. The captain winning the toss might look to bat first and pile up runs.
Probable Playing XI for RCB-W vs UP-W
Royal Challengers Bangalore Women
The Royal Challengers Bangalore will be on the hunt for their first win of the tournament. For the upcoming game, they might look to give Preeti Bose a rest and get Asha Shobana back into the combination. Bose, in the recent couple games, conceded handful of runs which might be a matter of concern for the side.
Probable Playing XI: Smriti Mandhana (c), Sophie Devine, Ellyse Perry, Heather Knight, Richa Ghosh (wk), Poonam Khemnar, Kanika Ahuja, Shreyanka Patil, Megan Schutt, Renuka Thakur Singh, Asha Shobana
UP Warriorz Women
UP Warriorz will need Grace Harris back in the combination. The match being at the Brabourne Stadium, a batter’s paradise, the side would want to go for an additional batting option, just how they did in their campaign opener. Tahlia McGrath put up a brilliant performance in the previous contest despite losing the game, and thus Shabnim Ismail might make way for Harris.
Probable Playing XI: Alyssa Healy (c & wk), Shweta Sehrawat, Kiran Navgire, Tahlia McGrath, Deepti Sharma, Simran Shaikh, Devika Vaidya, Sophie Ecclestone, Grace Harris, Anjali Sarvani, Rajeshwari Gayakwad
