On the fourth day of the IBA Youth Men’s and Women’s World Boxing Championships 2022 in La Nucia, Spain, reigning Asian Youth Champion Ravina displayed her talent and class to advance to the women’s 63kg quarterfinals.
Ravina, Kunjarani Devi Thongam, Mohit, and Sahil Chauhan Advance to Quarterfinals in Youth World Boxing
In the Round of 16 matchup against Varga Franciska Rozi of Hungary, Ravina set the pace early on and landed blows all through the opening frame.
The Indian fighter continued to dominate her opponent as the second round got underway. The fight had to be stopped by the referee as a consequence, and the Indian fighter was declared the winner.
The other female boxer competing on Saturday, Kunjarani Devi Thongam, defeated Horche Martinez Maria of Spain by a score of 5-0 to advance to the final eight rounds in the 60kg weight class.
In the men’s boxing matches, Mohit (86 kg) advanced to the quarterfinals because his Lithuanian opponent Tomas Lemanas was ruled ineligible after the second round.
Sahil Chauhan (71 kg) advanced to the pre-quarterfinals with a convincing 5-0 victory against Daniel Holstenco of Azerbaijan in the round of 32.
Both Nikhil (57 kg) and Harsh (60 kg) were defeated in their round of 32 matches. The former was defeated by Kalinin Ilya of Kazakhstan 1-4, while the latter was defeated by Erik Lsrayelyan of Armenia due to a referee interrupting the match (RSC).
On the fifth day of the competition, the last 16 round will feature nine Indians, including three women. In the men’s division, there will be matches between Vishvanath Suresh (48 kg), Jadumani Singh (51 kg), Ashish (54 kg), Vanshaj (63.5 kg), Aman Rathore (67 kg), and Deepak (75 kg).
The three contenders for the women’s quarterfinal are Bhawna Sharma (48 kg), Tamanna (50 kg), and Huidrom Griviya Devi (54 kg).
