Ravi Shastri has criticized the Rohit Sharma–Rahul Dravid–led team management for ignoring Mohammed Shami, calling their actions “unfair on the pacer.” Ravi Shastri, who used to be the head coach of the Indian team, is very upset that Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid, who are in charge of the team now, have completely ignored Mohammed Shami in the T20I setup. After India’s terrible loss at the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE, Shami hasn’t played a single T20I.
Since the end of the last T20 World Cup, the current Indian team management, which also came to power after the last T20 World Cup, has left Mohammed Shami out of the T20 setup. As a result, he didn’t play in the home series against South Africa, West Indies, New Zealand, or Sri Lanka. Likewise, Shami wasn’t chosen for the away series for Ireland, England, or the West Indies.
Ravi Shastri is upset that Mohammed Shami is not on the Indian T20I team.
Ravi Shastri complained during the second innings of the India vs. Sri Lanka Super 4 match at the Asia Cup 2022 that Mohammed Shami had been completely left out of the Indian T20I team. Shastri said that after this year’s IPL, the team’s managers and selectors should have given Shami a second look.
“I am completely amazed to see how Mohammed Shami has been sidelined by the current Indian team management and the selectors. The Indian bowling hasn’t looked that effective in this year’s Asia Cup and a veteran like Shami should have certainly made it to the squad,” Ravi Shastri said.
“We saw how due to the presence of dew in the last T20 World Cup, spinner became completely ineffective and hence, he could have been a great choice for the Asia Cup in 2022. Especially, after how his IPL went for Gujarat Titans this year, he should’ve certainly been a part of the think tank,” Shastri added.
Mohammed Shami did pretty well in the IPL 2022
The Gujarat Titans picked Shami for the IPL 2022 season. This year, he took the first wicket of the tournament, and Ashish Nehra and Hardik Pandya used him well in both the early and middle overs. Shami didn’t bowl many overs for Gujarat Titans in the end, but he still got wickets.
This season, Shami played in 16 games and took 20 wickets, with an average of 24.40 and an economy rate of 8.00. He took more wickets than anyone else on his team, even more than the Afghan leg-spinner Rashid Khan. As a result, Shami came in sixth place in the Purple Cap race and was the third best pacer in the tournament in terms of how many wickets he took.
