On Monday, January 8, Assam skipper Riyan Parag led from the start against Chhattisgarh in the current Ranji Trophy encounter at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium.
During the second innings, the right-handed batsman smacked 155 runs off 87 balls, including 12 sixes and 11 boundaries.
His century aided the visitors’ 86-run second-inning advantage.
Since the previous season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023), Parag has been on a roll in the home circuit.
At the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the 22-year-old scored 510 runs in 10 innings at an average of 85, smashing seven half-centuries.
In addition, the part-time leg-spinner took 11 wickets in 10 matches at an economy rate of 7.29.
Fans on X (previously Twitter) had conflicting reactions to Riyan Parag’s IPL knock versus Chhattisgarh. One user commented:
The Rajasthan Royals have signed Riyan Parag for the IPL 2024 season. Since his debut in the T20 competition in 2019, the all-rounder has failed to produce.
The middle-order batter has 600 runs in 54 games with a below-average average of 16.22 and a strike rate of 129.7, hitting two fifties.
During the 2023 season, Parag allowed 78 runs in seven innings pitched with a strike rate of 118.18.

Riyan Parag’s clean batting effort helped Assam set an 87-run goal for Chhattisgarh in the Ranji Trophy on Monday.
Chhattisgarh batted first and scored 327 points in their first innings. Amandeep Khare led the way with the bat, hitting 116 runs off 218 balls, including three sixes and 12 boundaries.
Meanwhile, Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Singh contributed 82 and 58 points, respectively.
Mukhtar Hussian, Mrinmoy Dutta, Akash Sengupta, Rahul Singh, and Kunal Sarma all took two wickets for Assam.
Assam responded by being bowled out for 159 in their first innings. Denish Das led the way with 52 points from 108 deliveries.
Sourabh Majumdar was the standout bowler for Chhattisgarh, taking six wickets, while Ravi Kiran took three.
Assam were knocked out for 254 in their second innings. Other than skipper Parag, none of the other batters delivered for the visitors.
In the last innings, Chhattisgarh needs 87 runs to win the game.
