Aakash Chopra believes that Rajasthan Royals’ acquisition of Shubham Dubey in the IPL 2024 auction as a lower-middle-order batter heading is excellent.
The Royals paid 5.80 crore for the Vidharbha player during the auction last month. The Jaipur-based club also paid 7.40 crore for Rovman Powell, another powerful middle-order batsman.

Chopra complimented the Rajasthan Royals for going for Powell and Dubey with the sole purpose of strengthening their lower-middle order.
He went on to say, “They went into the auction with an extremely clear strategy that they need batters who can bat down the order.”

They began bidding on Rovman Powell, who, oddly, appeared in the first set, and they went for him. They stated that they required his services. “I appreciated the clarity.”
In 19 T20 innings, Dubey has scored 485 runs with a strike rate of 145.20. He also has a respectable List A record, with 159 runs scored in six innings at a strike rate of 90.34.
Aakash Chopra said that the Rajasthan Royals did not successfully use the Impact Player rule in IPL 2023.
“Rajasthan, for a very strange reason, although they are a team that lays a lot of emphasis on analytics, a lot of people say that they can make their XI based on numbers, but despite that, they just could not crack the Impact Player rule.”
The cricketer-turned-commentator pointed out that the Royals needed depth in both batting and bowling.
Chopra said that Jos Buttler’s poor form was a contributing cause to RR’s failure to make the playoffs.
However, he observed that the Royals underperformed last year, despite the fact that Yashasvi Jaiswal was in red-hot form and Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer did well down the order.
