It will be equipped with international standard facilities such as hurdles, javelin and a 400-meter track. There is also a soccer field, basketball court, swimming pool and hockey ground.
Construction of the athletic complex has begun with BPCL’s help. The IAAF will take on the oversight responsibilities, as well as start a membership drive to get funding. Special personnel and facilities will also be available for free to police members.
It’s not every day that you get to see a story about railway police building an international sports ground, but that is exactly what happened in Mumbai this week. The Mumbai Railway Police Commissioner Quaisar Khalid and his team set out to build the first ever sports ground specifically designed for members of the force, and they were not deterred by the challenge. Supported by funds from members of the public, they managed to complete the project ahead of schedule and with minimal resources. This is an amazing story worth celebrating, and it shows just how much dedication railway police officers have towards their work and their community.
