Rahul Dravid, the head coach of Team India, downplayed Nabi and Rohit’s confrontation during the first Super Over in the third Twenty20 International in Bangalore on Wednesday.
Rahul Dravid said that as long as it kept within boundaries, the contentious moment was good for the sport since it brought out the emotion amongst the players. However, as soon as the teams focused on the second Super Over, things quickly became calmer.

The match proceeded to a one-over struggle to decide the winner after both teams played to a draw in the 20 overs. After five balls, with Afghanistan at 13/1, Nabi swung at a yorker from Mukesh Kumar and missed, opting to go for a bye.
But Sanju Samson, the wicketkeeper, misdirected the ball off Nabi’s pads and fell to Virat Kohli at long-on. However, Rohit Sharma was miffed that the hitters scored two additional runs.
After the ball bounced off his pads, Nabi and Rohit got into a heated argument, with the former seemingly having no issue accepting the additional runs. In response to the circumstance, Dravid stated:
“It could occur in the end. I believe that there may be a great deal of passion and emotion while playing for your nation. It’s amazing, in my opinion, how competition and emotion can still surface in dead-rubber games when it matters most.”
It’s alright. That’s how the game works. Sometimes frustrations may arise, but that’s alright. After it struck the non-striker, it moved, and I believe that is okay—you may sprint for those. To be very honest, there was an incident in the first Twenty20 International when it struck our batsman’s bat and we also scored a run.
I believe that nothing in the regulations prevents you from actually doing such runs, nor is there anything to read into them. That’s okay, it’s all part of the fun,” he continued.
Unfortunately, India leveled the score at 16 during Afghanistan’s batting innings, thus those extra runs did not matter. As a result, there was a second Super Over, in which India won by a margin of 10 runs.
