Rafael Nadal makes ‘dangerous’ injury revelation ahead of pre-US Open comeback
Rafael Nadal makes ‘dangerous’ injury revelation ahead of pre-US Open comeback: Nadal has confirmed his participation in the Western & Southern Open, which will be his first appearance in the event in five years. However, the Spaniard confessed that the ailment is still a concern with the US Open only a fortnight away.
Rafael Nadal is expected to make his ATP debut at the US Open warm-up in Cincinnati, Ohio. Nadal had already missed the Canadian Open due to his ongoing recuperation from an abdominal ailment suffered during his Wimbledon campaign earlier in July. And, prior to his debut in the Cincinnati Masters, Nadal revealed something “threatening” about his ailment.
Nadal has withdrawn from his Wimbledon semi-final match due to an alleged 7mm abdominal tear. He was scheduled to return in the Montreal event after a time of relaxation, and had even began his preparations for the tournament. However, on the eve of the tournament, Nadal withdrew due to gastrointestinal pain.
However, Nadal announced his participation at the Western & Southern Open less than a week later, marking his comeback to the event after a five-year absence. However, the Spaniard confessed that the ailment is still a concern with the US Open only a fortnight away.
Nadal stated: “The most important thing is to stay fit and compete in the competitions that I want to compete in. I shall not play more than what I feel is beneficial to my body. I’m glad to be back in Cincinnati after being unable to visit for a few years. It is risky since I have a minor rip in my abdomen.”
“The abdominal area is hazardous since you exert a lot of force there on every serve. I’m trying to do things correctly, to be a little more cautious. I’m hoping to be prepared for the action here. I want to play on the Tour again. I’m having a wonderful season and enjoying myself. I want to enjoy my time in Cincinnati this week.”
Nadal, who has only won the Cincinnati championship once in his career, will most likely open his campaign against Borna Coric in Wednesday’s night session. But the most talked-about component of his return has been the chance for Nadal to recapture the world number one ranking if he wins in Cincinnati for the second event in his career.
