R Praggnanandhaa and PV Nandhidhaa of India win Asian Chess Championship titles
In the ninth and final round, Praggnanandhaa drew with fellow countryman B Adhiban after a game that lasted 63 moves, taking home seven points as a result.
With a 0.5-point advantage over the rest of the field into the final round, the 17-year-old Chennai player. The seasoned Adhiban didn’t succeed in challenging him, and he shared first place with him.
Praggnanandhaa received a ticket to the next FIDE World Cup in addition to the victory.
After games ended in draws, the other competitors who had a remote chance of winning the championship were eliminated: S L Narayanan, Harsha Bharathakoti, Karthik Venkataraman, and Shamsiddin Vokhidov.
In contrast to Narayanan and Vokhidov, whose game finished in a draw, Bharathakoti and Venkatarman were left with just a half-point apiece when their match ended in a tie.
Koustav Chatterjee was beaten by GM S P Sethuraman in 41 moves, bringing the total of 6.5 points to five.
Due to a superior tie-break result, Adhiban placed third, while Harsha Bharathakoti claimed the second position.
Those who placed fourth through seventh were Narayanan, Vokhidov, Sethuraman, and Venkataraman.
WGM Nandhidhaa finished the women’s competition with 7.5 points after drawing her ninth-round match with Divya Deshmukh. Through the nine rounds and six victories, the 26-year-old Tamil Nadu player went undefeated.
Divya Deshmukh, Priyanka Nutakki, and Thi Kim Phung Vo (Vietnam) tied for second place with 6.5 points each, but Nutakki won the race thanks to a superior tie-break. Vo came in fourth, with Deshmukh coming in third.
