Praveen Kumar, a former cricketer for India, endured a horrific vehicle accident – Reports: According to reports, the former Indian fast bowler Praveen Kumar and his son were involved in a terrible car accident on Tuesday, July 4. Thankfully, despite a speeding truck hitting their car, both people are unharmed.
On Tuesday night, while Kumar was returning from Pandav Nagar, an accident occurred. His vehicle was severely damaged, and as soon as people gathered there to report it, the police arrived and promptly brought the claimed truck driver into custody.
Praveen’s career has been plagued by several injuries in the past. Praveen Kumar’s struggle with stress-related illness has been well-documented, and the former pacer has worked to overcome it. He also reportedly attempted suicide once due to stress and attended counseling to rectify that phase in his life.
Praveen Kumar recently took five wickets in three matches for Chandigarh Champs in the Legends Cricket Trophy in March 2023.
Praveen Kumar’s cricketing career at a Glance
Between 2008 and 2012, Praveen Kumar, who had the unique ability to move the new ball in the air and off the deck, was perhaps India’s ODI pace spearhead. The bowler from Uttar Pradesh made his India debut in the series finale of the ODIs against Pakistan in Jaipur in November 2007.
His standout performance for the Indian team occurred the following year, in 2008, when India managed the seemingly impossible feat of defeating Australia Down Under in the Commonwealth Bank (CB) series.
Praveen Kumar picked up 10 wickets despite only participating in four games, including a four-wicket haul in the second game of the best-of-three championship series that enabled India to win. Adam Gilchrist and Ricky, two dangermen, were fired by the 36-year-old.
In 2008, the pacer took 21 wickets in 14 ODIs, while in 2009 and 2010, he took 17 and 19 wickets, respectively. Praveen Kumar was chosen for the Indian team to compete in the 2011 World Cup at home, however, due to an injury, S Sreesanth took his spot.
After recovering from an injury sustained during the World Cup, Praveen Kumar made his test debut. He took 27 wickets in six tests in 2011, including a five-wicket haul in the first test of the England trip at Lord’s.
However, the talented fast bowler hasn’t featured in the Indian Test team since 2012 and played his last international match for India in T20Is against South Africa in March of that year.
Overall, Praveen took 112 wickets for India across all formats in 84 matches, of which he took 38 wickets against Australia and England.
Praveen Kumar also played in IPL for a decade from 2008 to 2017 and represented multiple franchises namely Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Gujarat Lions. In 119 games, the medium pacer took 90 wickets at an economy rate of 7.73 runs per over.
The new-ball specialist also found great success at the domestic level, taking 267 first-class and 185 List-A wickets in a 14-year stint with Uttar Pradesh.
Praveen Kumar entered politics in 2016 by joining the Samajwadi Party before the UP Assembly.
