Player Appraisals: Genuine Madrid 2 – 0 Manchester Joined together
Andre Onana had a relatively quiet game, making only a couple of good saves, including one from Vini Jr in the first half and another with his feet in the second. He was confident in his passing from the back, which is a positive sign despite the end result. As for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, he played a part in allowing Bellingham to score and was not always accurate with his passing. Although he did push forward, he tended to pass the ball backwards when in possession.
Player ratings for the game:
Raphael Varane – 7/10: He played well, made no mistakes and was calm under pressure.
Lisandro Martinez – 6/10: He made a crunching tackle on Bellingham late in the first half, which could have resulted in a red card in different circumstances. He struggled at times.
Luke Shaw – 6/10: He had a decent performance, but nothing spectacular.
Casemiro – 5.5/10: He protected the defence well, but made a few wayward passes and wasteful shots. However, he did make an excellent cross-field pass to set up Garnacho early in the first half.
Kobbie Mainoo – 6/10: Unfortunately, he suffered an injury right at the start of the game, which was horrible luck.
Mason Mount – 6.5/10: He showed glimpses of his excellent engine and game-reading abilities. He got forward for one of the best chances of the first half and also made an important tackle when Real were on a counter.
