Following a game between Felinfoel and Llangennech under-eights, the home team wore a kit in honor of “Benny 10” for the ceremony.
It was described as a “fantastic” honor by the late Wales and Lions captain’s family.
Bennett, who was born in Felinfoel and died in June at the age of 73, won three Triple Crowns and two Grand Slams in the 1970s.
Ela, his granddaughter, stated, We are ecstatic about him.
As he was a really big part of the team.” Phil Bennett’s family says it’s been a touching day for them.
Sir Gareth Edwards Huw Owen, who knew Phil Bennett for approximately 50 years, stated that Bennett “will never be forgotten” at the memorial service held at Llanelli Parc Y Scarlets. Today has been both very happy and very sad.
It’s a nice touch because we always looked in this corner when Felinfoel played at home because Phil used to play there, and it’s very sad that he won’t be there.
“Such a humble, genuine guy” The village also has a statue of him, and Mr. Owen said that people always put flowers and took pictures there.
James Bennett’s son stated: As a family, it is a moving day.
” He would still be out training here in his 70s, no matter what the weather was like.
Bennett made his Ridges debut in 1969, however needed to hold back to set up a good foundation for himself as best option outside-half, in light of the fact that the position had a place around then to another extraordinary, Barry John.
However, after John’s retirement in 1972, Bennett assumed control of the position and wore number 10 for the Lions during their historic tour of South Africa in which they were unbeaten.
After captaining Wales to their second Grand Slam in three years, he left international rugby in 1978.
Bennett continued to play for Llanelli until 1981, making 413 appearances and scoring 131 tries. “Huge part of our family life missing,” he said.
We are thrilled to have a bench dedicated to him here, and it serves as a wonderful reminder of what he meant to the club.
