Peter Lundgren, Roger Federer’s former coach, has joined Dominic Stricker’s team for a trial period. Lundgren is a former tennis player who went on to win six titles in his career, three in singles and three in doubles. In addition, he and Jeremy Bates made it to the final of the men’s doubles competition at the 1988 Australian Open.
The Swede took up coaching after retiring as a player and helped Marcelo Rios reach the top 10 of the ATP rankings. In 2000, he took over as Roger Federer’s coach, but the two men parted ways in 2003. Under Lundgren’s guidance, Federer won his first Grand Slam that year at Wimbledon.
The Swede then coached Marat Safin, who won the 2005 Australian Open with his assistance. Additionally, he coached Daniela Hantuchova, Marcos Baghdatis, Grigor Dimitrov, and Stan Wawrinka.
Dominic Stricker’s team now has Lundgren in place of Sven Swinnen for a three-week trial period.
In 2021, Dominic Stricker had the opportunity to work out with Roger Federer. He said in a meeting with the Australian Open that he gained some significant knowledge from that experience. Additionally, Stricker disclosed that Federer advised him to work on his serve.
