The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is getting ready to launch the very first Women’s Under-19 Twenty20 event in the country’s history. Six different regional associations will compete against one another in the competition, which will get underway on August 13th, 2022. The Lahore Country Club in Muridke will serve as the location for all of the round-robin tournament’s matches over its 10-day duration.
The competition will give up to 84 different players, including 15 different reserve players, the opportunity to take part in it. According to the board, the competition is being arranged in an effort to build a strong talent pool in preparation for the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, which will take place in South Africa in the following year.
It is important to note that in order to be eligible to compete, a player’s birthday must fall on or after September 1, 2003. This means that they must be at least 15 years old. The senior teams competing in the national T20 and one-day tournaments are expected to include some of the players who have distinguished themselves in their performances.
It is common knowledge that the forthcoming competition for players aged 19 and younger will serve as a stepping stone for athletes looking to earn spots on the senior squad. It would appear that the Pakistan Cricket Board has not begun their efforts to create a junior cricket tournament for women with this being the first time they have done so.
The PCB was also responsible for organising a U-1 tournament every year between the years of 2004 and 2008. Later on, between 2009 and 2013, an Unde 19 tournament took its place as the subsequent competition. However, as a result of a change in policy, all of the tournaments for young women’s levels were cancelled after the year 2013.
