It has been a very busy summer for many NBA players. Some have participated in pro-am tournaments across the United States. On the other hand, others are holding private workouts. Paul George preferred the latter. He is working out under Rico Hines and his famous basketball runs.
NBA players throughout the league are joining forces for summer workouts and pro-am exhibition games the entire offseason. LA Clippers star Paul George failed to participate in pro-am action. But he did attend a recent Rico Hines run with his fellow NBA players. Before they finished their workout, the star forward conveyed an inspiring message to his fellow players in attendance.
“Everybody is blessed in this environment right here to figure out who you are in this league,” George said. “Some elevate, some plateau, some don’t get better… Find your niche, but believe in what you got. Be sharp, be efficient with your dribbles, be sharp, efficient with your playmaking. Read, react, play off one another, push yourself. And challenge yourself.”
George finished his message and encouraged players to defend hard. He motivated the players to defend without concern about getting exposed. “You get exposed in front of millions,” George said. “Why not do it here?”
George suggested his colleagues find out what they are good at. He asked them to continue improving. Even during workouts, players must strive to get better. Paul asked them not to worry about becoming viral for the wrong reasons. He said that only a handful of people have made it to the NBA. And so it becomes important to stay motivated and ready. After a recent workout, George communicated his advice to other NBA players looking to be successful.
It was a valuable lesson that George shared. When avoided in a controlled practice environment, it compromises a player’s ability to improve their form. That was Paul George’s ultimate statement. The message is certainly one that players everywhere can learn from.
The seven-time All-Star was not the only well-known player who shared advice after a Rico Hines run. Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors had the same moment recently. He suggested fringe players the way to stay in the league for a long time.
Paul George is entering his 13th season in the National Basketball Association. George has carved out a nice career for himself so far. Paul George is regarded as one of the best players in the league. He was the 10th overall pick in the 2010 draft by the team of Indiana Pacers. After a slow start to his career in Indiana, he emerged in 2013. He suffered a gruesome leg injury the very next year.
George returned to his best a year later. But he was traded to the OKC Thunder in the year 2017. After two All-Star seasons in Oklahoma City, the Clippers acquired him. He was paired with Kawhi Leonard in 2019. Despite their star power together, the duo failed to lead the Clippers to the NBA Finals.
Nevertheless, the team Clippers are trending upwards. George and Leonard seem to be healthy heading into next season. The team overachieved last season despite being ravaged by injuries on all sides. Ty Lue is a commendable coach. On the other hand, Steve Ballmer is one of the best owners in the NBA.
