Australia captain Pat Cummins refused to go into detail about all-rounder Glenn Maxwell’s latest misdemeanor, which featured a late-night admission to an Adelaide hospital for an ‘alcohol-related’ incident.
Cricket Australia is now examining the matter after verifying on January 22 that Maxwell was involved in an altercation at a pub.
Hours before the news of Maxwell’s antics leaked, he was dropped from the ODI team for the forthcoming three-match series against the West Indies, citing workload management.
While the CA has repeatedly said that the timing is just coincidental, it remains to be seen if the all-rounder will be sanctioned or not.
When pushed about the situation involving his teammate, Cummins stated that the all-rounder must accept responsibility for his decisions that night.
We’re all adults who have been on night outs; you have to make your judgments.
I believe in this particular situation, he was not on tour with the Australians; he was there for a private function, not with the cricket team.
So it’s a little different. Cummins stated at a news conference before the second Test against the West Indies in Brisbane, “You have to own and be comfortable with any decision that you make.”
Australia’s second Test against the West Indies is set to begin on January 25 in Brisbane.
The all-rounder is anticipated to play in the ensuing three-match T20I series, which begins on February 9.

Cricket Australia is aware of the issue with Glenn Maxwell
Cricket Australia issued a brief statement following rumours of Maxwell’s mystery hospitalization in Adelaide.
According to accounts, the all-rounder went to a pub after making a quick stop at a golf club.
The bar happened to be where former Australia bowler Brett Lee’s band ‘Six and Out’ was playing.
While it is unclear what happened on the premises, an ambulance was summoned to transport the seasoned player to the hospital.
Cricket Australia is aware of an incident involving Glenn Maxwell that occurred in Adelaide over the weekend and is seeking more information, according to a statement.
It has nothing to do with his being replaced in the ODI team, which was decided after the BBL and by his specific management plan.
Maxwell is likely to return for the T20 series. No other comments will be made at this time.
