When Najam Sethi became chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board earlier this week, the organization underwent a significant transformation. Shahid Afridi was named the men’s team’s interim chief selector by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday. The panel also includes Rao Iftikhar Anjum and Abdul Razzaq, both of whom played cricket in the past.
Haroon Rashid was appointed the convener. A few days earlier, former cricketer Ramiz Raja’s replacement, Najam Sethi, was named the new chairman of the PCB. Shahid Afridi, a former Pakistan captain, has been appointed interim Chair of the Men’s National Selection Committee by the PCB Management Committee.
The panel’s other members include Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum. “The Convener will be Haroon Rashid,” the PCB stated on their official Twitter account. Shahid Afridi was one of Pakistan cricket’s most decorated players. Over the course of his 22-year career, he led the national team in various capacities. During his illustrious career with Pakistan, the all-rounder played in 27 Tests, 398 One-Day Internationals, and 99 Twenty20 Internationals.
Abdul Razzaq, another former all-rounder who appeared in 46 Tests, 265 ODIs, and 32 T20Is for Pakistan between 1996 and 2013, joins the former captain. Rao Iftikhar Anjum, in the meantime, is a previous pacer who picked 77 wickets for the side in ODIs, showing up. Najam Sethi, on the other hand, is in charge of a new 14-member management committee that includes Sana Mir and Shahid Afridi, both former captains of Pakistan.
They have been given 120 days by the government to reinstate department teams and establish a new board of governors. In an effort to reestablish department teams, the government also overturned the PCB constitution and reinstated it to its 2014 status. Department teams were not included in the current constitution, which was written in 2019.
Sethi had tweeted earlier this week, “The cricket regime led by Ramiz Raja is no longer.” The PCB constitution of 2014 has been reinstated. To bring first-class cricket back, the Management Committee will put in a lot of effort. Cricketers in the thousands will once again be employed. Cricket’s famine will come to an end.
