Babar Azam, the Pakistan captain, won the “Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy” for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2022 on Thursday. In 2022, Azam set new personal records and made sure Pakistan’s star shone brightly, raising the bar even higher. Babar blew past that mark with a whopping 2598 runs and an intimidating 54.12 batting average. He was the only player in all formats to surpass 2000 runs during the calendar year.
Babar’s year-end haul of eight hundred and seventeen fifties was his best to date in his career. The ICC Men’s ODI Player of the Year for 2021 and 2022 ruled the 50-over format with 679 runs in nine games. He was a reliable performer who scored 50 or more in eight of his ODI innings. Given that he remains at the top of the ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings, the 28-year-old’s selection as the ICC Men’s ODI Player of the Year for the second year in a row came as no surprise.
Despite the fact that his team’s Test results were not always favorable, Babar also had a great year. He scored 1184 runs in just nine matches for Pakistan in the longer format, doing most of the heavy lifting.
In addition to serving as captain of the ICC ODI Team of 2022, Babar’s year as captain of the white-ball formats was notable for the fact that Pakistan won all three ODI series, losing only one of nine games to Australia.
Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year: Stokes
Ben Stokes, the hero captain and all-rounder for England who revolutionized Test cricket in 2022, was selected as the best player in the longer format.
Stokes has led England to nine victories from ten Tests since taking over as captain. The team has won series victories over New Zealand and South Africa at home, beat India in the one-off postponed Test to level the series at 2-2, and hammered Pakistan 3-0 away from home, the best margin of victory England has ever had against Pakistan in the country.
Prior to his appointment as captain, England had only won one of their previous 17 Test matches and had lost each of their four most recent series.
He took 26 wickets at an average of 31.19 and scored 870 runs at an average of 36.25.
In 2022, England’s 15. Test scoring rate of 4.13 was the second highest in history and the highest since Australia in 1910.
England’s strike rate per over was a game-changing 4.77 in the matches Stokes led.
On the first day of the first Test against Pakistan, England scored 506/4, which was the most runs ever scored by a team in 75 overs.
Sciver is the best woman’s cricket player.
Nat Sciver, the England captain and star all-rounder, also scored a double.
Both the “Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year” and the “Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year” awards went to her.
Sciver captained England for much of the home summer and scored 1,346 runs and took 22 wickets in 33 matches.
She performed admirably at the 2022 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, finishing as the third-highest scorer in the competition and contributing significantly to England’s success in qualifying for the final.
In 17 ODI matches, she scored 833 runs and took 11 wickets.
The best umpire is Illingworth. For the second time, Englishman Richard Illingworth was named “ICC Umpire of the Year.” He also received the title of “Best Umpire” in 2019.
