Pakistan Super League to clash with IPL in 2025
Pakistan Super League to clash with IPL in 2025: As a result of Pakistan’s jam-packed season at home in 2024-25, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is on track to become the first Twenty20 league to compete head-to-head with the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2025. This will take place in Pakistan.
According to ESPNCricinfo, the timetable is going to be tight since in February 2025 Pakistan will be hosting the ICC Champions Trophy. This will be the first big cricket trip that Pakistan has hosted in almost 30 years.
Because of this, the Pakistan Cricket Board was compelled to set the dates for the tenth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) between the months of March and May. The window for IPL is more or less set in stone and is significantly longer. It always begins the first week of March and continues all the way until the beginning of June each year.
FTP
Pakistan has started to host top teams in the last three years and will host all full members except India in the 2023-27 Future Tour Programme (FTP), despite the fact that it was unable to host multi-nation cricket at home during three previous Future Tour Programme (FTP) cycles since 2009 due to security issues. Pakistan has not been able to host multi-nation cricket at home since 2009.
There are 27 Tests, 13 of which are played at home as a part of the ICC World Test Championship cycles. There are also 26 one-day internationals played at home out of a total of 47, and 27 Twenty20 Internationals played at home out of a total of 56.
Because of this heavy schedule, there will be a conflict of dates between the PSL and IPL in 2025, and the 2026 PSL will end up taking place in December 2025-January 2026, which is fewer than seven months later than originally planned. The Premier Soccer League will resume play during its customary months of January and February for its upcoming 12th season.
Statements
“While finalising our Future Tours Programme 2023-2027 in a tight and densely packed cricket calendar, we have given priority to context, quality, and player workload,” PCB chief executive Faisal Hasnain was quoted as saying in a statement by ESPNCricinfo. “We have given context, quality, and player workload the utmost importance,” the statement continued.
“In addition to this, we have made an effort to strike a healthy equilibrium between the three formats in order to ensure that they can continue to co-exist in a meaningful way. I have no doubt that cricket followers here in the United States will be ecstatic to learn that top-ranked and enticing teams from other countries, including Bangladesh, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies, will be travelling to Pakistan to compete in matches for the ICC World Test Championship.”
“In addition, Afghanistan, Australia, Ireland, and Zimbabwe will all tour Pakistan in order to compete in white-ball matches. This means that during the course of the next four years, ten of the twelve ICC Full Members will compete in cricket in Pakistan. This is very interesting “In conclusion, he said.
In addition, Pakistan will play host to two triangular series, which is an unusual occurrence these days. Following the triangular series that will take place between South Africa and New Zealand in February 2025, another one will take place between England and Sri Lanka the following year in 2026.
“We are also aware that in order for our teams to be successful in ICC competitions, they need to be supplied with the most advantageous training possibilities possible.
As a result, this has also been an essential component of our approach regarding scheduling, as we have planned proper international matches prior to the start of ICC competitions “Hasnain continued his explanation.
“In addition, and in accordance with our vision for triangular one-day international series to contribute to increasing excitement and attracting greater audiences, we have so far scheduled two tri-series to take place in February 2025 and October/November 2026.
This tri-series will involve New Zealand and South Africa, as well as England and Sri Lanka, respectively. Additionally, this is something that the supporters can look forward to.”
“Because of the consistency and predictability of our home and away bilateral matchups through 2027, we now have the foundation upon which to build a solid commercial program. This will allow us to make the most of the opportunities presented by our commercial rights.
This will make it possible for us to ideally boost our income and channel those back into the further development of our cricket at every level, from our grassroots talent hunt to our international playing facilities. This will be a game-changer for us.”
Wednesday saw the unveiling of the Men’s Future Tours Programme (FTP) 2023-2027 by the International Cricket Council. This announcement confirmed the international schedule for all Full Members across all three formats of the game.
FTP cycle
In comparison to the 694 international matches that are being played in the current FTP cycle, the next one will feature 777 total international matches, including 173 Tests, 281 ODIs, and 323 T20Is. Before it hosts the One-Day International World Cup in 2023, India will have played in 27 ODI matches.
During the cycle, the Men in Blue will compete in five-match Test series against England and Australia respectively. Between August 18, 2022, and February 20, 2027, India will compete in a total of 76 Twenty20 Internationals, 63 One-Day Internationals, and 44 Test Matches.
