Pakistan captain Babar Azam becomes the first Pakistani in six years to score 1,000 Test runs in a calendar year. He will have one more chance to add to his 1,009 runs in 8 Tests when Pakistan plays New Zealand next week.
In 2022, during the third Test against England in Karachi, Babar Azam became the fourth batter to accomplish the feat.
He is the 6th Pakistani player to arrive at 1,000 in a year, crossing the complete when he arrived at 45 during an innings that finished on 54. Pakistan is looking at their first-ever series whitewash on home soil, despite Babar’s strong play.
When Pakistan plays New Zealand next week, Babar will have one more game to add to his 1,009 Test runs. Joe Root of England, who is representing the visitors in Karachi, is the player with the most runs in 2022. He has scored 1,098 runs in 15 Tests.
Other batters who have accomplished the feat in Test cricket this year include England’s Jonny Bairstow (1,061) and Australia’s Usman Khawaja (1,079 runs in 10 Tests). For Pakistan, Younis Khan accomplished the accomplishment two times, scoring 1,179 runs in 2006 and 1,064 in 2014.
Mohammad Yousuf scored 1,788 runs in 2006, Inzamam-ul-Haq scored 1,090 runs in 2000, Azhar Ali scored 1,198 runs in 2016, and Mohsin Khan scored 1,029 runs in 1982.
The most by a batter in a calendar year is Yousuf’s total.
