On the second anniversary of his passing, fans honor Australian superstar Shane Warne
Two years to the day, Shane Warne, one of cricket’s greatest heroes, passed away after a heart attack. When he tragically passed away at the age of 52, the cricket world came to a standstill as the great leg-spinner was leading commentators on Australian matches.
During his storied 15-year playing career, Warne delighted spectators with a theatrical experience never witnessed before with his skill at leg-spin bowling. With 708 wickets, he is still the second-highest wicket-taker in Test history, only surpassed by former off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka, who claimed 800 wickets.
With 293 wickets in the end, the renowned spinner had even greater success in One-Day Internationals. In the 1999 ODI World Cup, Warne became one of just four players to win Player of the Match in both the semifinal and championship games.

Some of the sport’s most memorable on-field moments were created by Warne’s battles with former Indian and West Indian hitters Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara. The leggie concluded the red-ball format with an unbelievable 37 five-wicket haul, with a bowling average of 25.41.
In addition, Warne had a reputation for humiliating England in several Ashes series, as shown by his 195 wickets in 36 Test matches against the bitter rivals, including 11 five-wicket hauls.
Twitter users honored the leg-spinner by expressing gratitude for his influence and legacy in the sport. Someone posted this: “Reflecting on the two-year anniversary of losing a legend. Shane Warne, you were a gem that continues to shine bright in our memories. Rest in peace. After Shane Warne, Current Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon is the only other spinner in the nation to reach 500 Test wickets.
