IND 2023 test India made three mistakes:- Despite India falling two wickets late, Dean Elgar’s historic century at his home ground in Centurion laid the foundation for South Africa’s dominant performance with the bat on Wednesday.
After losing only five wickets on the second day, which ended prematurely due to poor weather conditions – including bad light – the hosts managed to take an 11-run lead over India.
KL Rahul scored his best Test century to date before being removed by Nandre Berger, suggesting that the day might have been promising for the visitors.
This wicket was the third wicket of the fast bowler’s innings in his debut match. Thanks to Rahul’s performance, the visiting team was successful in scoring a strong score of 245 runs despite the difficult wicket. Here, we examine three errors made by India on the second day of the first SA vs. IND 2023 test:
IND 2023 test, India made three mistakes
Interesting strategy with the ball after lunch:
In a surprise move, Rohit Sharma started the second session with rookies Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur instead of the traditional pairing of the two most likely bowlers to take wickets.
In the first session, the top bowlers got only half an hour’s rest before lunch, but the next seventy minutes should have given them plenty of opportunity to recover and capitalize on their previous work.
Jasprit Bumrah has been out for one and a half years and India has not played any Test for five months, so the team would like to gradually bring back its bowlers to full responsibility.
Starting the season with at least one of the two best bowlers could have been beneficial. At a crucial point in the Test match, the bowlers had conceded 42 runs in eight overs until Bumrah took back command.
Shardul Thakur kept reducing the pressure:
Shardul Thakur started his career as a standout player in Australia, scoring runs consistently in difficult conditions, attacking freely while bowling, and regularly being on top.
He took 24 wickets in his first six Test matches at an impressive average of 20.33.
However, he improved his six-wicket average to 58 in the following games, even though they were played in conditions favorable to seam bowling.
He consistently gave runs on the leg side at a rate of more than four per over. Despite this, he continued taking the ball and giving runs.
Their lack of discipline allowed South Africa to dictate terms and prevented Rohit Sharma from building any pressure.
After the Test series, if he does not take any wickets in this match, then his place should be investigated.
Ravichandran Ashwin out and under bowled:
Indeed, the weather was favorable for sailors; There was a lot of greenery on the pitch and the sky was cloudy. Jasprit Bumrah performed commendably, but Siraj provided early success.
But after this magic, Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur went wrong and all the tension went away.
In such a situation, R Ashwin can prove useful from one end. The great Shane Warne used to say, “If it seems, it spins,” and Ashwin would have bowled more than eight overs.
It is possible that his controlled bowling may have made the South African hitters work harder to score runs.
