On comeback trail, Ajinkya Rahane slams double ton in Duleep Trophy
On comeback trail, Ajinkya Rahane slams double ton in Duleep Trophy: With the help of double centuries from the returning Ajinkya Rahane and Yashasvi Jaiswal, the West Zone crushed the North East Zone in their Duleep Trophy quarterfinal on Friday.
Rahane (207 batting) and Jaiswal (228 batting) were put into bat, and they amassed 333 runs for the second wicket while toying with the North East bowling lineup.
Rahane, who has played many great knocks in the Test arena, appeared to enjoy the hit in the middle as he feasted on the North East bowling. Even though he is not usually recognized as a six-hitter, Rahane blasted six sixes in addition to his 22 fours on the second day to establish his dominance.
In the day’s opening game, Prithvi Shaw was the first batsman to fall when spinner Ankur Malik had him caught behind by Ashish Thapa for a quick 113. For the first wicket, he and Jaiswal had amassed 206 runs.
Score
After being left at 116 for no loss at the end of the first day due to rain, the duo quickly added 90 more runs.
Shaw got a life on 80, hit a shot to the point area to reach his century, and then was outplayed by Ankur Malik. Rahane, who desperately needed runs to make a return to the Test team, made sure the North East bowlers’ woes would not end.
With the help of the skilled Jaiswal, the stylish right-handed batter dove headfirst into the opposition bowling. Malik’s lost catch off of Jaiswal’s bowling gave him a lifeline as well. But they kept scoring at will, and Jaiswal hit his century in only 281 balls.
Jaiswal’s innings were cut short when Bishworjit Singh caught him off the off-spin bowling of Jonathan Rongsen for 228. Along with Rahane, Rahul Tripathi (who batted 25) put together a quickfire 51-run partnership.
Speaking at the day’s end, Shaw remarked on how great it felt to hit a century and how crucial it was to maintain concentration despite the relatively poor bowling assault.
Statement
He tried to downplay the inexperienced bowling attack by saying, “To be honest, if they are playing this sort of level, they must have done something.” “I think it was unique for me because after working so much and giving myself time, fantastic to achieve a century,” he said. The fact that they are even in this league is indicative of their potential.
They bowled effectively for the first twenty or so overs. Even with hundreds from Yash Jaiswal and Ajju Bhai, it should just take one ball to dismiss the opposition.
When asked how significant this domestic season was for him after he found himself on the sidelines of the national team a few seasons ago, Shaw stated, “I feel every match is vital to me. As a person, I am someone who works well with others. Brief scores: West Zone 590 for 2 in 123 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 228, Ajinkya Rahane 207 batting, Prithvi Shaw 113) against. North East Zone.
East Zone makes 397 vs North
After the East Zone scored 397 in their first innings, the North Zone responded strongly in Puducherry, cruising to 65 for no loss thanks to the batsmanship of youthful Yash Dhull (35 runs) and Manan Vohra (20 runs).
Starting at 179 for three before the overnight break, East Zone batted their way to a first-innings total of 397 thanks to a superb century from Virat Singh (117) and a 62 from all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed. East was able to produce a respectable total thanks to the efforts of Virat Singh and Shahbaz Ahmed after captain Manoj Tiwary (27) was dismissed by Nishant Sindhu.
Dhull, who captained India to victory in the Under-19 ICC World Cup earlier this year, led the North Zone comeback with a flurry of boundaries in his knock of 35. North’s hard-working pacer Navdeep Saini and left-arm spinner Nishant Sindhu each picked up three wickets, which went a long way toward preventing East from reaching the 400-mark.
Virat Singh 117, Shahbaz Ahmed 62, Sudip Kumar Gharami 68, Nishant Sindhu 3 for 64, Navdeep Saini 3 for 83; East Zone all out for 397 in 136.4 overs; North Zone won (Yash Dhull 35 batting).
