According to Aakash Chopra’s, a healthy and available For the ODI World Cup that will be held in India later this year, Shreyas Iyer is India’s best choice at No. 4.
A three-match ODI series between the Men in Blue and the West Indies will begin on Thursday, July 27, in Bridgetown, Barbados. Iyer is absent from the 17-person Indian team for the three ODIs since he is recovering from back surgery.
Chopra discussed the prospective options for the No. 4 spot in India’s World Cup squad in a video posted to his YouTube account. Iyer, in his opinion, is the finest choice:
“Who now plays or formerly played at No. 4? Shreyas Iyer played at No. 4 and has performed admirably in all of the matches he has participated in.
After his absence, things became a little disorganized, but if Shreyas Iyer is well and available, there isn’t a better choice at No. 4 right now.
The Mumbai hitter will have little time to rediscover his form and fitness, the former Indian opener noted:
“However, since he hasn’t yet begun playing, his availability is first. He is not a member of the group now in the West Indies. The Asia Cup, three games against Australia, and the World Cup followed. You must therefore regain your form and fitness within a month.
In 42 ODIs, Shreyas has racked up 1631 runs at a remarkable average of 46.60. He played 17 ODIs last year and scored 724 runs at a great average of 55.69. But he hasn’t participated in a competitive game since March.
You may consider Suryakumar Yadav to be a potential No. 4 player. – Shreyas Iyer’s replacement in India’s World Cup roster is Aakash Chopra’s
According to Aakash Chopra, Suryakumar Yadav might serve as Shreyas Iyer’s backup in the No. 4 position:
“You need a backup in case, God forbid, Shreyas Iyer is unavailable or fails to regain his form. In that case, Suryakumar Yadav might be considered as a possible No. 4.”
“Suryakumar Yadav is a T20 rockstar, but in ODIs, despite his limited playing time. He hasn’t been able to establish himself.”
The former cricketer who is now a broadcaster noted that the unusual player has occasionally come under fire for his excessive aggressiveness in ODI cricket:
Outsiders have occasionally observed that he could allow himself a bit more time. “You try to play ODI cricket in the T20 mode, you try a little too hard,” they have said.
Chopra believes that Suryakumar will be batted at No. 4 against the West Indies by Rohit Sharma and company. A prolonged tenure in the role will help him stay relevant in the team management’s plans going into the World Cup, he added.
