Nick Kyrgios pulled a blinder at Wimbledon 2022 Championship that shows life in a full circle
Nick Kyrgios pulled a blinder at Wimbledon 2022 Championship that shows life in a full circle. 8 years ago, a young baby-faced tennis player Nick Kyrgois did the unthinkable. Nobody thought a 19-year-old would enter the field and defeat Rafael Nadal in the Round of 16 reaching the quarterfinals for the first time in a Grand slam.
8 years later, 27-year-old Nick Kyrgois again pulled a blinder and knocked Brandon Nakashima to reach the quarterfinals in the five-set win 4-6, 6-4, 7-6, 3-6, 6-2. Nick had a few glitches with Nakashima, but in the end, he was sturdy and managed to reach victory.
The roller coaster for Nick Kyrgios
This journey to reach this level of tennis is a roller coaster. Throughout his journey, he was under the media radar due to his on-court antics. Australian media didn’t appreciate that led to heavy fines by tennis governing bodies.
But his entertainment value and tennis playing abilities are the reason he is playing on the centre court despite being 40th ranked in the world.
After the victory on the court, Nick Kyrgios reacted to the media and proved his critics wrong by advancing into the quarter-finalsa.
Interacting with the media, Nick says” I’m sitting here in the Wimbledon quarter-finals and I know how many people are upset about it, I have been through so much, I feel I’ll be able to stay composed.
He further recalled his memories of playing in centre court and defeating Nadal in 2014, he says he keeps them in mind while playing. The experiences he had with Nadal, helped him to cross the line, Brandon was playing here for the 1st time.
He further added ” for the 1st time in my career I can say I was not playing well irrespective of Centre court Wimbledon and crowd, I was just able to say wow, I have come so far to myself.
I have been here before, done it, his levels were not dropping, but I was thinking about my experience here that helped me.
The 27-year-old is excited to play against Demon. After defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas, his biggest threat Kyrgios is now two matches away from the finals in Wimbledon.
