Nick Kyrgios, a former World No. 13 player, recently responded to a critic who made fun of Gael Monfils’ tennis career.
Monfils was seen participating at the ASB Classic in Auckland a short while ago. He lost a hard three-set match to the 24-year-old Fabian Marozsan in spite of his heroic effort in the opening round.

Nick Kyrgios lashes out at a tennis critic for taking a dig at Gael Monfils’ tennis career
On X, critics were eager to criticize his sluggish season debut. A tennis fan called Myles David posted a video of Monfils missing a break during a match and made a comparison to his career.
“A point like this encapsulates Gael Monfils’s tennis career. Amazing, yet unsuccessful. In my view,” David penned.
“During his tennis career, he produced eight figures. I would say that’s quite successful. Slam double-digit championships, semifinals. I think you just have a poor viewpoint,” Nick Kyrgios said.
Due to recurrent ailments, Monfils had a long absence from the men’s circuit last year before making his comeback in March. He has since amassed 16 victories in 31 matches and completed a run that resulted in the Stockholm Open championship.
Additionally, he advanced to the third round of the Citi Open in Washington and the quarterfinals of the Canada Open.
The former World No. 6 also made time for his daughter Skai Monfils, who was born in October 2022, a priority during the previous year. Following her maternity break, his wife Elina Svitolina returned to the women’s circuit last year.
The duo has frequently been seen by fans encouraging one another during games. This year, Gael Monfils will be competing in the Australian Open for the 18th time.
The Frenchman’s performance on the tour in the past few months has been encouraging. In addition to his outstanding victories over Cameron Norrie, Alex De Minaur, and Stefanos Tsitsipas, Monfils won the Stockholm Open in 2023.
The 37-year-old has won 33 of his 50 matches in the Australian Open, which is a respectable record. His two greatest runs at the Melbourne Major to date were in 2016 and 2022 when he made it to the quarterfinals.
Beginning on January 14, Monfils hopes to advance even deeper in the 2024 Australian Open.
